Orientation

We have arrived safely in Jacmel this afternoon after landing this morning in Port au Prince, Haiti. Like a family who has dispersed across the  world, we shared embraces at the airport, caught up on each other's latest news, and then set about collecting our luggage. Like so many other places that we visit, we organized our bags at the carousel and hoped that our dental supplies would make it through customs. Though we will be working in an official capacity with the mayor's office in Port au a Prince, you take nothing for granted when you visit another country. Fortunately, things went well for us, and we found ourselves on the road heading to the coastal town of Jacmel.

After moving our personal items to our rooms, we held a brief orientation meeting and had an opportunity to meet Katherine who runs the NGO the we'll work with tomorrow.

Her group, Goals Beyond the Net, is dedicated to giving the children a total life change. They provide education, healthcare and structure to create good citizens in this very poor part of an extremely poor country.

Tomorrow we'll see 1600 of her children, perhaps the most ever seen in a day. But I hear we've never had a group provide the type of onsite support that we'll see tomorrow.

We're all looking forward to seeing patients.... more tomorrow.
